Halldór Halldórsson was born in 1821 in N. Þingeyjarsýsla. He died in a house fire in December 1889.
Spouse: Sigríður Þorláksdóttir b. 1830 in N. Þingeyjarsýsla, d. in a house fire in N. Dakota in December 1889.
Children: 1. Halldór b. 1873 2. Halldóra b. 1877.
They moved west to N. Dakota in 1882 and settled in the Garðar Settlement. Vesturfaraskrá and the 1880 census in Iceland say Sigríður was Halldór’s housekeeper but a source in N. Dakota, an article by Halldór Jr. says they were a couple. The father and son were taking care of the animals when they saw smoke coming from the house, they ran towards it because Sigríður was sick inside. Halldór the Elder tried to enter, but the smoke overwhelmed him, he lost consciousness and died there with Sigríður.
