Björg Stefánsdóttir was born on March 29, 1875 in N. Múlasýsla. She died in Minnesota on February 10, 1950.

Björg came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1893 with her brother, Guðmundur. They moved to Minnesota where relatives lived, among them Gunnlaugur Pétursson from Hákonarstaðir, the first Icelandic settler in Minnesota. Jón was the son of Arngrímur Jónsson and Jóhanna Jónsdóttir, who came west in 1876. They moved from Canada south to Wisconsin and then west to Lincoln County in Minnesota. Jón and Björg first lived in Lincoln County, but in 1918 they settled on land south of Minneota in Lyon County.
