Kjartan Ísfeld Stefánsson was born on Flatey at Skjálfandi in S. Þingeyjarsýsla on November 14, 1871. He drowned in Lake Winnipeg on June 12, 1906. He took the last name Stephensen in the west.
Spouse: September 29, 1895 Vilhjálmína Þórunn Oddsdóttir b. in Reykjavík on March 17, 1872, d. in Manitoba on October 6, 1964.

Kjartan came west in 1878 with his parents, Stefán Jónsson and Björg Kristjánsdóttir, who settled in Mikley. Vilhjálmína came west to Winnipeg in 1894 with her parents, Rev. Oddi V. Gíslason and Anna Vilhjálmsdóttir. Kjartan rose to be a skipper and steered steamships on Lake Winnipeg. He and Vilhjálmína lived in Mikley.
