Þórarinn Guttormsson was born in N. Múlasýsla in 1872. He died in Whatcom County, Washington on November 23, 1950.

Þórarinn came west in 1883 with his parents, Guttormur Sigurðsson and Ólöf Sölvadóttir, pioneers near Hallson, N. Dakota. Þórarinn, single, lived in Roseau County, Minnesota in 1900 but was registered in Washington state near the Pacific Ocean in 1910. He then moved to N. Dakota and is documented as farming in Pembina County. Little is known about Guðlaugu, but her father, Árni Jónsson, lived with them in 1930. Þórarinn lived in Washington his last few years.
