Jón Andrés came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1887 with his mother Guðrún Jónsdóttir and her future husband, Torfi Sveinsson from Dalasýsla. He moved with them to the Argyle Settlement, but in 1901 he moved west to Alberta, settling just north of Markerville. He lived there the rest of his life.
