Benedikt and Sesselja came west with their twin boys in 1873 and traveled to Ontario, Canada. They lived in Rosseau for two years, then moved west to New Iceland in the fall of 1875. They lived there three years before moving south to N. Dakota. Benedikt was in the first land survey group with Jóhann P Hallsson who explored lands west of Cavalier. He first lived in Hallson but settled in the Garðar Settlement in 1880. From there they moved west to Markerville, Alberta in 1888.
