Jón Erlendsson

Vesturfarar

When Jón Erlendsson settled in Winnipeg in 1888, he soon got a job in Heimskringla’s print shop. He then took over the editorship from Gestur Pálsson in 1891. It was written about him: “Jón was very involved in all the social affairs of the Icelanders, and often stood up for them. He was a strong Icelander in writing style and tough on his opponents.” Baldvin L. Baldvinsson said that Jón was: “gifted with great intelligence, beautifully poetic and the best writer, had a clear vision of what was going on, and a sharp understanding.” (SÍV5 p. 8)
