Sigtryggur Ísleifsson was born in Eyjafjarðarsýsla in 1866. Unmarried and childless. He came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba together with his mother, Rósa Ólafsdóttir, and his brother Svanlaugur. His sister Guðrún went west as a widow with her two children a year earlier. Laufey and Margrét, his sisters, came to Winnipeg in 1900.
