Jón came west with his housekeeper Kristín Símonardóttir in 1901. He took land in the Geysir Settlement in 1902 and called the farm Odda.

Skúli Hannesson was born in Húnavatnssýsla on March 14, 1880. He died in Winnipeg on December 23, 1961. He took the last name Hansson in the west. Unmarried and childless, but information may be missing. He emigrated west to Winnipeg with his mother, Elinborg Ásbjarnardóttir, in 1887. As he grew, he took charge and earned a good education.  

Kristín Símonardóttir was born in Húnavatnssysla in 1842. Unmarried and childless. In 1890 she was a housekeeper at Kollafoss in Húnavatnssýsla and where Jón Guðmundsson was the head of the house, a new widower. They moved west to Manitoba in 1901 and settled in the Geysir Settlement on land called Oddi. Kristín was Jón’s maid until he died in 1921. …
