Ólafur Jón Guðmundsson was born on September 25, 1893 in Dalasýsla. He took the last name Pétursson or Peterson in the west. Child. He came west in 1900 with his mother Salóme Jónatansdóttir and stepfather Jóhannes Pétursson. They settled in the Geysir Settlement and there Ólafur took his stepfather’s last name.

Salóme Jónatansdóttir was born on August 25, 1864 in Húnavatnssýsla. She died in the Geysir Settlement on February 4, 1949. Spouse: Jóhannes Pétursson, b. in Húnavatnssýsla in 1875. Children: Ólafur Jón Guðmundsson, her son, b. 1894. He is registered as Peterson in Canada. They came west in 1900 and settled in Winnipeg. They moved to the Geysir Settlement in 1906 …
