Jóhann Jónasson fæddist í Snæfellsnessýslu árið 1867. Laxdal vestra. Maki: Guðbjörg Valmundsdóttir f. í Rangárvallasýslu árið 1883 Börn: Barnlaus Jóhann fór vestur til Winnipeg í Manitoba árið 1888 og þaðan í Sandhæðabyggð norður af Akra í N. Dakota. Hann var samferða hálfbróður sínum, Guðmundi Laxdal norður í Álftárdalsbyggð í Manitoba árið 1899.
