Sigmundur Björnsson was born on June 1, 1888 in N. Múlasýsla. He was unmarried and childless when he emigrated west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1905, together with his sister Sigþrúður and her family. More of his siblings came west to America; Jón and Helgi lived in the Siglunes Settlement by Lake Manitoba. Sigmundur moved in 1923 to Keewatin, Ontario.
