Jónas Jónsson was born in N. Múlasýsla on April 7, 1884. He took the last name Johnson in the west. Unmarried and childless. Jónas came west to Canada in 1905 and took land near Leslie in the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan. He was in the Canadian army 1916-19, was badly wounded and never fully recovered.
