Jón Helgason was born in Borgarfjarðarsýsla in 1864. He died on August 7, 1949. Unmarried and childless. He came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1893. He bought land in the Argyle Settlement and lived there. He moved to Gimli in his later years and died at Betel Home.
