Anna Margrét Þorsteinsdóttir was born on May 26, 1849 in S. Múlasýsla. She died in Leslie in the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) on February 13, 1939.
Widow.
Children: 1. Anna Sigríður b. 1877 2. Jóna b. 1878 3. Þorsteinn b. 1884 4. Páll b. June 26, 1887 5. Björgvin b. 1891.
Anna lost her husband, Guðmundur Jónsson, a farmer at Rjúpnafell in Vopnafjörður on January 7, 1908. Daughters Anna and Jóna came west by sea in 1903 and son Þorsteinn in 1905. He returned to Iceland in 1908, no doubt having heard of his father’s death. Þorsteinn probably played a part in Anna Margrét’s decision to come to the West in 1911, when she was over sixty. Her three sons, Þorsteinn, Páll and Björgvin, came with her. The family lived in Winnipeg for the first few years, but in 1915, Þorsteinn and Páll went to the Lakes settlement in Saskatchewan, where they became farmers. Anna Margrét stayed with them and took care of Páll’s home, he was always unmarried.
