Elín Eggertsdóttir was born in Gimli in New Iceland on September 9, 1896.

Elín was the daughter of Eggert Arason and Sigurlína Jónasdóttir who first settled in N. Dakota and later in Sandvík in Gimli. Eggert was a lighthouse keeper there. At a young age, Elín worked in a shop, but then devoted herself to the family from 1919 -1941. She sat on the board of the women’s association in the Árnes settlement and took care of various congregation matters. Hrólfur was the son of Stefán Sigurðsson and Kristbjörg Nikulaídóttir, settlers at Víðivellir in the Árnes settlement. Stefán was a merchant, shipowner, and real estate agent.
