Gordon Douglas Breckman was born in Winnipeg on July 10, 1921.

Children: 1. Douglas Einvarður b. in Lundar, September 30, 1952. 2. Susan Ingibjörg b. in Kingston, Ontario on December 28, 1955.
Gordon was the son of Einvarður Breckman and Halldóra Ingibjörg Jónsdóttir of Lundar and Winnipeg. He graduated from Daniel MacIntyre School in Winnipeg in 1940 and studied science at the University of Manitoba in the city for three years. He then went to Kingston, Ontario, where he graduated from the Royal School of Signals in 1955 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He joined the Canadian Forces and served in the United Nations Forces in Egypt in 1957 and NATO forces in Europe from 1959-1962. He was a major in the Canadian Forces and was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration. Ruth Mary was of Canadian descent.
