Guðbjörg Kristín Eggertsdóttir was born in Eyjafjarðarsýsla on July 5, 1905.
Unmarried and childless.
Guðbjörg was the daughter of Eggert Sigurgeirsson and Svanhildur Sigurbjörnsdóttir and she was just a year old when she came west across the sea. They first came to Winnipeg but in the same summer (1906) moved north to Siglunes where they settled. Guðbjörg attended school there and went on to Daniel McIntyre College in Winnipeg. Next, she attended Winnipeg Normal School, studied education and taught at various places in Manitoba. She later studied music at the University of Manitoba, where she graduated in 1948 in acoustics and music history. She then added studies in voice and piano. In 1949 she moved west to Vancouver where she taught music, then completed her B.A. degree from the University of British Columbia in 1960.
