Guðlaug was the daughter of Þorgrímur Ólafsson from Borgarnes and Guðrún Rósa Þorsteinsdóttir, who lived in Manitoba. Agnar was the son of Ágúst Magnússon from Húnavatnssýsla and Ragnheiðar Jóhannsdóttir Straumfjörð from Mikley, Manitoba. He graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1923 and became headmaster at Riverton from 1925-28, and at the Jón Bjarnason School from 1929-1940. He last taught at a middle school in Winnipeg.
