Halldór was the son of Guðbjartur Kárason and Ingibjörg Erlendsdóttir in Blaine. He finished elementary school in Blaine and went to vocational school. Became a barber. During World War II he was in the Philippines and Japan, among other places. When he returned home, he enrolled in Western Washington State College in Bellingham, graduated from there and became a teacher. Anna’s parents were Jón Frímann Jónsson and his wife, Ásrún Jónsdóttir, from Mýri in Bárðardalur.
