Hallfríður Stefanía Stefánsdóttir was born in Akureyri on March 19, 1884. She died in Winnipeg on March 8, 1937.

Árni went to Akureyri when he was young, where he learned carpentry and painting. After a two-year stay in Copenhagen and Bergen, he worked for a while in carpentry and house painting in Iceland, but in 1910 he came to the West. He first lived in Winnipeg in the years 1910-19, then went west to Springwater, Saskatchewan where he stayed until 1922. From there he went to Wynyard until 1937, then back to Winnipeg 1937-40 and after that to Seven Sisters Falls. He always took an active part in the social activities of his countrymen wherever he lived, and in 1949 he was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of the Falcon.
