Séra Haraldur Steingrímur Haraldsson was born in Selkirk, Manitoba on March 30, 1917. He died on December 15, 2013. He was known as Rev. Harald Sigmar in the west.

Haraldur Steingrímur was the son of Reverend Haraldur Sigmar and Anna Margrethe Thorlaksson and grew up with them in Wynyard, Saskatchewan and Mountain, N. Dakota. He received a B.A. degree from the University of N. Dakota in 1938, an M.A. degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1943 and a B.D. degree from Mount Airy Seminary that same year. He was ordained a priestpastor at Hallgríms church in Seattle, Washington on June 20, 1943 and served it until 1951. Then he moved to Manitoba and was pastor of the Lutheran congregation in Gimli 1951-55. Again he returned to Washington where he served a congregation in Kelso from 1955-57. He was hired at the University of Iceland in 1957 and taught there in the theology department until 1959. He went back to Washington and became a pastor at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Vancouver.
