Helga Jónsdóttir was born on December 11, 1892 in N. Múlasýsla. She died in Winnipeg in 1973.

Helga was the daughter of Jón Jónsson from Sleðbrjót and Guðrún Jónsdóttir who came west to Manitoba in 1903. Eysteinn came to the West in 1902 with his widowed mother, Katrín Hildibrandsdóttir, and siblings. They moved to the Framnes Settlement in Manitoba where Katrín’s sister, Guðrún, and her family lived. Eysteinn was there until 1906, when at the age of ten, he went to live with his newly married brother Sigurður in Winnipeg. He grew up there, finished elementary and high school, and soon after began his teaching career. He married Helga and they moved to Oak Bluff by Lake Manitoba, where Eysteinn taught until 1931. That year he was hired as a school principal in Riverton.
