Jakobína was the daughter of Jakob Einarsson and Jórunn Pálsdóttir, early settlers in the Muskoka settlement in Ontario. She was a teacher in her hometown for three years before she married. She and Emil lived there until his death. She then moved to Bracebridge, Ontario and later to Milton, another town in Ontario where she worked in accounting until 1962. The following year she visited Iceland with her sister Guðrún.
