Kristbjörg Kristjánsdóttir was born in Mountain, N. Dakota on May 17, 1886.

Kristbjörg was the daughter of Kristján Gunnlaug Kristjánsson and Svanfríður Jónsdóttir, who came west in 1878. They settled in N. Dakota. Kristbjörg completed her elementary education in Mountain and her B. Sc. degree from the University of North Dakota and the Agricultural College in the state. She then became a teacher in many places, including in Garðar and Mountain. She was also the secretary of the Mountain city government from 1952.
