Kristjana Jakobína Kristjánsdóttir was born in Manitoba on March 11, 1914.

Kristjana’s parents were Kristján Jakob Jónasson and Steinunn Gísladóttir, early settlers in Manitoba. Kristjana was involved in the social affairs of her countrymen in the Víðir settlement and sat on the board of the Ísafold women’s association there for years. Sigurður Konráð was the son of Steingrímur Sigurðsson and Elísabet Jónsdóttir, who came west to Manitoba in 1900. They first lived in Selkirk, but in 1909 they settled in the Víðir settlement in New Iceland. Sigurður Konráð grew up there and became a farmer.
