Lúðvík was the son of Haraldur Hólm Sigurðsson and Helga Gunnlaugsdóttir. They came west with their children in 1907 and settled in New Iceland. They took land in the Víðir settlement and Lúðvík worked with them on the farm for a long time. Fanney’s parents were Hjálmar Árnason and Guðrún Helgadóttir. They married in 1887 and a year later they came west to Canada. They were also settlers in Manitoba. Lúðvík and Fanney were farmers for a long time, working first on Hjálmar’s farm and later on their own land. When they got older, they moved to Winnipeg where Lúðvík was the supervisor of several large buildings.
