Magnea’s parents were Ólafur Ólafsson Johnson and Ragnheiður Bjarnadóttir, early settlers in the Árdals and Framnes settlement. Sigurjón was the son of Sigurjón Sigurðsson, shopkeeper in Árborg, and his wife Jana G Jónsdóttir. Sigurjón attended the Jón Bjarnason school in Winnipeg in 1922-1924, then store manager in Árborg for many years. He later ran an oil station in the village. He was on the board of the Lutheran congregation from 1931, for many years chairman. He actively participated in community affairs.
