Philip Markús Ólafsson was born in Roseau County in Minnesota on October 21, 1902.
Spouse: September 26, 1926 Þórey Sigurgrímsdóttir b. December 20, 1903 in Winnipeg.
Children: 1. Anna Sigurveig b. July 16, 1927, d. January 29, 1957 2. Philip Ólafur Hallgrímur b. September 18, 1928.
Philip came with his parents Ólafur Pétursson and Annie Azelia McNab west to Saskatchewan where they first lived in Kristnes and later in Foam Lake in the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð). From there the road went to Winnipeg in 1912. He attended elementary school in Foam Lake, high school in Winnipeg and there he completed his teacher’s degree in 1923. He studied at the University of Manitoba 1925 and the University of Chicago 1926-1929. In 1932, he graduated from the Meadville Theological School in Chicago. See more about Philip in Atvinna below.
