Rósa came to the West in 1883. Jón came to the West in 1881 and lived in Winnipeg for the first three years. From there he headed west to Seattle, Washington, where he lived until he settled at Point Roberts in 1893. There he took up land, nearly all of it wooded. He cleared it and built a good house, which was long considered one of the finest on the peninsula.
