Roy Herbert Ruth was born in Winnipeg on January 21, 1907.
Unmarried and childless.
Roy’s parents were Guðjón Magnússon Ruth and Guðrún Sigurðardóttir. Roy grew up in the Argyle settlement, completed his elementary and secondary school education in Brú in the settlement in 1922 and in 1927 he began studying at the Jón Bjarnarson School in Winnipeg and graduated in 1929. He continued his education, graduating from Manitoba Teachers’ College in 1932 and a B.A. degree from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg in 1932. He then went to business school and graduated from Success Business College in 1938 and Dominion Business College in 1939. He became a teacher and taught at both elementary and secondary schools in the Shoal Lake settlement in Manitoba.
