Sæunn Jónsdóttir was born in Skagafjarðarsýsla on June 1, 1862. She died on January 30, 1951.

Jón and Sæunn came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1883 and were married there. They went to New Iceland the same year and Jón settled land west of Gimli. They lived there until 1912, when they were among the first Icelanders to settle at Elm Point on the northern shore of Lake Manitoba. They lived there until 1936 when they gave up farming and moved to the village of Steep Rock.
