Sigríður Sigurðardóttir was born in Eyjafjarðarsýsla on June 16, 1892.

Sigríður was in junior high school in 1907-08 and high school in Akureyri in 1909-10. In the spring of 1910, she came to the West. She worked in a sewing workshop for a while, then studied nursing at a hospital in St. Boniface in Manitoba 1911-1914, She continued her studies in a course in New York for 10 months. She worked as a nurse in various places until 1919, the last in Watrous, Saskatchewan.
