Jón came west with his family to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1876 and settled in Mikley in New Iceland. He moved to Winnipeg in 1880 and to the Argyle settlement in 1883. He named his farm Mýra which was southwest of Cypress River. They moved to Glenboro in 1906.
