They came west to Ontario, Canada in 1874 and were in Kinmount for one year. They moved from there west to New Iceland and settled in Gimli. Benedikt took land in the Víðirnes settlement and named his land Velli where the family lived for four years. In 1881 the family moved to Kjalvík in the same settlement, where Benedikt’s brother Skafti lived, and later moved to the Argyle settlement.
