Sigurveig came west with her father, Jón Árnason, in 1903. Jóhannes came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his parents in 1888 and moved on in the same year to the Garðar settlement in N. Dakota. Jóhannes moved from there to the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan around the turn of the century and took land near Elfros.
