Valgerður Stefanía Ágústsdóttir was born in Eyjafjarðarsýsla on September 30, 1899.
Unmarried and childless.
Stefanía came west to Winnipeg in 1905 with her foster mother, Helga Vigfúsdóttir. Stefanía was educated at the Jón Bjarnason School in the city and after that trade school. That schooling came in handy because she got a job at Columbia Press Ltd. and later Wallingford Press. She was very involved in the social affairs of her countrymen in the city, worked a lot in the Good Templar lodge, sang in the choir of the First Lutheran Church and was on its deacon committee. She was a member of the Icelandic Canadian Club and for quite a few years, 1945-54, and a correspondent for The Icelandic Canadian.
