Steinunn came to the West shortly after the turn of the century and settled in Glenboro, Manitoba. She lived there for 26 years, moving to Winnipeg and later west to Vancouver. Jón Nordal came west in 1876 and stayed in Mikley, Manitoba for a few years. From there he made his way to Winnipeg in 1880, but in 1883 he became a farmer in the Argyle settlement, which he called Mýra. In 1906 he moved to Glenboro and lived there with Steinunn and their children until his death. Steinunn then moved to Winnipeg and lived there for over a decade. She spent her last years at Höfn, a senior citizens’ home in Vancouver.
