Þórarinn Magnússon was born in Mountain, N. Dakota on December 9, 1890. He died in Elfros, Saskatchewan on September 4, 1961. He had the name Thorarinn M Bjarnason in the west.

Þórarinn’s parents were Magnús Bjarnason and Rósa Sæunn Sveinsdóttir in Wynyard, Saskatchewan. He grew up there and started farming in the area near his parents’ farm in 1915. In 1932 they stopped farming and moved to Elfros. They lived there from then on.
