She moved with her parents to Swan River where they took land. After graduating, she moved to Winnipeg, where she and Magnús met. Magnús’ parents, Jóhannes Gíslason and Valgerður Stefánsdóttir came west to Winnipeg in 1887. He moved with them to Duluth in Minnesota in 1892 and from there in the spring of 1902 to the Garðar Settlement in N. Dakota. When he finished school, he worked as a logger in Ontario, but in 1906 he settled in the Lakes Settlement in Saskatchewan near Wynyard. Nothing came of farming there, but he bought other land in the settlement a few years later, built a house, and they moved there with little Magnús in 1917. Aðalbjörg lived there the rest of her life.
