Andrés was the son of Andrés Eyjólfsson and Kristín Árnadóttir who came west to Canada in 1882 and 1883. Andrés grew up in Lundar, Manitoba and moved from there to the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan where he was a farmer. Ólöf was the daughter of Magnús Jóhannsson Borgfjörð and María Thomsen in Vatnabyggð.
