He emigrated west to Toronto, Ontario in 1873 and worked there until 1875 when he moved to Winnipeg. He lived in Manitoba and then went further west to Vancouver. Árni was the brother of Friðjón Friðriksson and engaged in business as he did. Sigurbjörg emigrated to Ontario in Canada in 1874 with her parents, Þorlákur Björnsson and Þórdís Árnadóttir. The moved to New Iceland in 1875 and south to N. Dakota in 1881.
