Benedikt Jónsson was born in S. Þingeyjarsýsla on July 22, 1838. He died in Alberta on July 12, 1910.
Spouse: Sesselja Pálsdóttir b. 1853 in Eyjafjarðarsýsla. She is listed as Cecilia in the 1860 census!

Benedikt and Sesselja emigrated west with their twin boys in 1873 and traveled to Ontario, Canada. They lived in Rosseau for two years before moving west to New Iceland in the fall of 1875. They lived there for three years and then moved south to N. Dakota. Benedikt and Jóhann P. Hallsson were part of the first land survey group which surveyed lands west of Cavalier. He first lived in Hallson, but moved to the Garðar Settlement in 1880. From there, they moved west to Markerville, Alberta in 1888.
