Benjamín was the son of Daníel Daníelsson and María Benjamínsdóttir, who came west in 1887. They lived at Brekka in the Árnes settlement. He grew up there and started helping with the farm at a young age. Lára moved to N. Dakota in 1901, with her mother, the widow Þorbjörg Runólfsdóttir. There Þorbjörg married Magnús Jónsson Mýrdal in 1903 and they moved to Arborg in 1911. Benjamín bought land in 1913 a little north of Árborg. It turned out to be poor arable land, but grass grew well there and it was always hayed. Benjamín and Lára moved there shortly after their wedding and lived there for a long time. Benjamín worked for farmers in the settlement, including Gunnar Simundson. They then sold the land and moved west to Alberta and lived in Edmonton.
