Bergljót Eiríksdóttir was born in N. Múlasýsla on November 4, 1877. She died in Arborg, Manitoba on August 5, 1968.

Bergljót came west to Minnesota in 1878 with her parents, Eiríkur Jónsson and Vilborg Stefánsdóttir. They settled in Minneota and lived there 12 years. From there, Bergljót moved with them to Duluth and later to the Akra Settlement in N. Dakota. In 1901 the family moved to Manitoba Eiríkur bought land a short distance from Arborg. Bergljót was young when she was assigned to take care of needy relatives and later her elderly parents. This was her destiny in life.
