Brynjólfur and Guðrún emigrated west to Ontario, Canada in 1873. They were part of a small Icelandic community in Cardwell and lived there until 1884. They moved to N. Dakota and they took land midway between Mountain and Garðar. From there, they moved to the Vatnabyggð Settlement in Saskatchewan in 1905 and bought land in the Wynyard Settlement.
