Einar was the son of Björn Jónsson and Stefanía Sigfúsdóttir who came west to Manitoba in 1892. They first settled in the Vestfold settlement, but in 1894 they moved to the Shoal Lake (Grunnavatn) where Björn lived until his death. After his father died, Einar took over and after a few years he moved to Oak Point where he made a name for himself. He started with a large cattle ranch and also engaged in fishing. He ran both a fish and cattle store for a long time.
