Friðrik and Mildfríður were on the same ship when they emigrated west to Ontario, Canada in 1874. They lived in Kinmount a year before moving to New Iceland in 1875. In 1879, they moved to N. Dakota and bought land in the Pembina hills. They moved to the Vatnabyggð Settlement in Saskatchewan in 1906 and settled on land their son Bjarni had selected the year before. The land was east of Wynyard.
