Friðrik Guðmundsson was born in Víðidal at Hólsfjöll in N. Þingeyjarsýsla in 1861. He died on May 3, 1936 in Mozart, Saskatchewan.
Spouse: 1) 1883 Guðrún Jakobsdóttir b. August 19. ágúst, 1861, d. April 11, 1886 2) October 20, 1890 Þorgerður Jónsdóttir, second wife, b. in N. Þingeyjarsýsla on October 24, 1864, d. in a tornado on June 18, 1927.

They came west to Saskatchewan in 1905 and settled on land near Mozart in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð). Friðrik was a pioneer in the settlement and he recorded the first chapter of the history of Vatnabyggð, which was published in the Almanak in 1917. He never finished the work due to poor eyesight, eventually he was blind for the last 15 years of his life. See Íslensk arfleifð below.
