Friðrik Hermann Jónsson was born on December 19, 1868 at Aðalból in N. Múlasýsla. He died on December 16, 1954 in Michigan. He took the name Frederick H. Fljozdal (Fljótsdal) in the west.

Friðrik was the son of Árni Brynjólfsson and Kristrún Jónsdóttir, but the couple Eiríkur Jónsson and Vilborg Stefánsdóttir took him in for a few years as a foster child. Friðrik came west with them to Minnesota in 1878 at ten years of age. He attended school in Minneota but began working for himself at a young age. In 1889 he moved to Duluth, where he worked for two years on the railroad. He later became a farmer in Warren, Minnesota, but in 1898, he returned to the railroad, but now at a Canadian railroad company. He became an employee of the Railway Workers’ Union and later became its chairman. (See Atvinna)
